This musical brings the traditional nativity story to life with new songs which gives it a fresh appeal for the audience.
'No Room for Mary' opens the show as Mary and Joseph journey to Bethlehem. However they are faced with a dilemma as the town is heaving with people, and hence have little luck finding a place to stay.
'The Inn at Bethlehem' has a hint of desperation as Joseph begs the innkeeper for merely a roof over their heads. As the Innkeeper leads Mary to the stable, Joseph stays behind with the donkey as the chorus sing
'The Broken-Hearted Donkey' during which the mule is patted and reassured by Joseph.
The action then moves from the town of Bethlehem to the fields where the shepherds are busy counting sheep. Luckily for them, this tedious job is interrupted by a visit from an angel who brings them news that the Son of God will be born in Bethlehem that very evening.
'Angels’ Alleluia' is sung by the angels as they rejoice about the forthcoming birth of Jesus. As the shepherds pull themselves together, taking in the news, they decide to follow the star and visit the baby.
'The Friendly Star' is sung as they gather their fleeces and set off on their adventure.
Meanwhile, the three Wisemen have also heard the news but before they reach Bethlehem, they make a stop at Herod’s Palace in Jerusalem.
'Gifts they bring' follows. Herod, however, is less than pleased to be woken, and is positively furious when he hears that the King of the Jews will be born that very night. As the Wisemen sing
'Melchoir, Caspar and Balthazar' King Herod paces up and down in fury, barely able to control his anger. Once the Wisemen leave to continue their search for the King, Herod sings/spits in fury
'Who is this Child?'
Upon reaching the stable tired and weary,
'Three Night Riders' is sung and the Wisemen are overjoyed to have reached their final destination.
'Did You Hear?' follows during which the innkeeper’s wife fills her husband in on the night’s events which seem to have occurred right under his nose without him realising!
'Bethlehem Baby' follows as the visitors begin to enter the stable in order to show their appreciation for the newborn King. First the shepherds present their gifts of fleeces followed by a short song
'While Bethlehem Sleeps' as the Wisemen enter and join the gathering.
'Mary, Alleluia' is sung as the visitors rejoice together before ending the show singing
'Because of Him.'
