Act I
'Christmas Time' opens the musical before the audience are taken on an exciting journey in the search for colour when Millie makes the mistake of mentioning that Christmas has turned a little grey. During the
'Grey Spell Millie and Sam are transported to Greyland, courtesy of the Magic Makeover Manager. Here they bump into Lon, Don and Ron who try to explain the benefits of Greyland during
'Cor Look At It.' However, Millie and Sam are still not convinced about the pros of a world full of grey, and soon meet a character who ‘illegally’ shares their view-Pelican. A very diplomatic character, Pelican tries to get everyone to appreciate the each other’s view in
'The Colour of a Different Boat.' Unfortunately, not only does this not work, but as the Guardians of the grey, Lon, Don and Ron feel the need to take Pelican along with Millie and Sam to the King for breaking the law and mentioning colour!
In the following scene, the audience catch a glimpse of the King’s grey character as he is not amused at the Grimkins’ attempts at marching. He is even less impressed when they say that their favourite fruit is orange which leads King Ming to detect that something is amiss in Greyland!
Continuing on their journey to visit King Ming, the group bump into a hedgehog who shares his sorrows during
'The Tale of the Blind Hedgehog.' It soon becomes apparent that not everyone is happy in a world full of grey. Unfortunately, the song fails to tug at the heart strings of Lon, Don and Ron, and the hedgehog joins Millie, Sam and the Pelican on the journey to visit King Ming. It is not long before the Chameleon joins as he too seizes the opportunity in
'Merge With The Splurge' to share his views on a world without colour.
As we return to Grey Palace, King Ming sees a vast improvement in the Grimkins’ marching and in
'Song of the Minging King' the King of Greyland grabs the spotlight and explores the origin of the curious name! Without hesitation, upon the arrival of the colourful intruders, they are marched straight to the Grey cells in
'The Song of the Grey.'
Act II
Although their time in the dungeons appears to be grey and dull, hopes are lifted when the R.O.C.C make a sudden appearance and protest for the Return of Our Colourful Christmas;
'R.O.C.C.' follows. Quick decisions are made as the R.O.C.C. help the prisoners to escape, but obstacles occur as the Guards enter to take the Pelican to see the king before he has a chance to leave. Millie waits behind and in
'Everything is Grey' it is the first time the audience see how much she misses the colourful world they had to leave. However there is no time to dwell as the Pelican returns having been fattened as the alternative to a Christmas Turkey! Fearing the worst, they join the others and escape!
In their secret hide out, the group hatch a plan to get the colours back again during
'True Colours.' With the entrance of the band’s manager, Harvard Hepstine, the plan evolves and before long, the way forward is decided and put into action in
'Random Act Of Kindness.'
Yet this colourful atmosphere does not last as we return to the Grey Palace where King Ming is awaiting for the celebrations around the Greypole to begin. Unfortunately, the band is not quite what he expects as the R.O.C.C sing
'The Colours Against the King Bop' which results in the King being wrapped around the Greypole in coloured ribbons. In a successful conclusion, colour returns to Greyland during a reprise of
'True Colours' and Millie and Sam return home in time for the colourful Christmas that they both always wanted.
