The show opens with the narrator who sets the scene and the first song
'Don’t Forget' combines the modern ideas of Christmas with the traditional ones. Joe and Sarah, two young children help put together the nativity tableau which belongs to their granddad (who stereotypically is asleep in his chair.) However, as night time falls, the stars enter to music and wave magic over the nativity tableau so that this Christmas Eve will be one the children won’t forget.
Expecting the light to be Rudolf’s nose, the children creep downstairs only to discover something quite unexpected! As the nativity tableau comes to life, the characters enter and tell the traditional nativity story. In fear of it becoming tedious, the traditional Christmas songs are abandoned and are replaced with new, exciting tunes.
'We’ll keep You Warm' is sung by the animals whilst
'Scary, Scary, Scary' is sung by the Shepherds. The Wise men and chorus join together to sing
'Here Come The Wise Men' whilst the story ends traditionally with the appearance of the angels, but the conventional ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ is replaced with a sweet alternative
'Hark, Hear the Song of an Angel.'
With the story complete, the children grow tired and fall asleep beside the stable, and accompanied by music, the Sparkly Stars return the tableau to its original place as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened. Woken up the following morning by their mum and granddad, the children are more excited about discovering the true meaning of Christmas than rushing to their stockings (everyone loves a happy ending!)
'The Merry Christmas Song' ends the musical.
This show is a perfect way to keep the traditional nativity play alive with new songs and ideas.
