Originally entitled Nativity 2000 and now reworked by popular demand to be relevant for any year. Christmas 1999 and 2000 saw many performances of this work in schools nationwide. It was a tremendous success as the comments below verify.
" The whole school community commented on the unusual storyline, beautiful music and lyrics" - Langrish County Primary School.
"Thank you for all your inspired work. A great show enjoyed by all" - Whalley CE Primary School.
What if Herod had managed to get his way and prevent Jesus from growing up to be the Saviour ? That is the question behind this Nativity celebrating two thousand years of Christianity. Herod is advised by his sages of the birth of the Saviour King, but he seems unconcerned about a baby. The sages then take him on a trip through history showing him the works and miracles of Jesus, the Conversion of Paul the Roman on the road to Damascus, and the spread of Christianity. Humour abounds without being irreligious in any way, especially when the monks, seen busy copying out by hand the scriptures and books of the bible are interrupted by Murdoch, the highly inventive but hopelessly impractical brother. The story finalises with the fall of Rome and children in schools in the year two thousand, celebrating Christmas, much to Herods annoyance ! Brilliant songs that the children will love to sing again and again are evident.
Mike Smith
After training at the Birmingham School of Music and St Lukes Teachers Training College, Mike qualified as a Music Teacher and became Head of Music in schools, mainly in the Midlands. He was for a time Education Manager for Yamaha Kemble and following his time there started up Musicline. That was 14 years ago now and the company that started with 4 works and a photocopier has grown to become a leading source of School Musicals for all ages, with branches in New York USA and Australia.
Mike, over the years, has written several musicals that have been performed on Radio, Television, schools all over the world and The Edinburgh Festival several times.
Mike very much enjoys being Managing Director of Musicline but wishes he had more time to write. But as Musicline has taken on more staff recently he might now get the time and opportunity.
