RING OUT THE BELLS is the traditional nativity story written especially for 5-12 year olds that lasts approximately 40 minutes. It is made accessible through the down-to-earth way it is told and the catchy new music, which the children will love to sing.
The people on earth were being selfish and unkind and so God decided to send his only son, Jesus, to earth to save them. He asked Angel Gabriel and the Little Star to help him. Although the Little Star is smaller than the others, she shines the brightest and much to the distress of all the others, God wants her to be his guide. Baby Jesus is born in the stable to the excitement of the little animals who live there and they have a party to celebrate Jesus' birth.
To Stage RING OUT THE BELLS.
RING OUT THE BELLS has 10 original songs written specifically for 5-12 year olds. It can be performed:
AS A MUSICAL. A script is provided which is suitable for Key stage 1. For Key stage 1, I suggest you omit the song HUSTLE AND BUSTLE and learn the first verses of the songs only so the children do not have too many words to learn.
AS A CAROL CONCERT FOR KEY STAGE 1 and 2. The songs can be song in succession linked by a narration script that is provided. I suggest you split the narration between the older children in the school. The songs can be divided amongst year groups i.e.: the youngest children sing THE STABLE SONG; the whole school sings PARTY and RING OUT THE BELLS. If you wish to shorten the carol concert I suggest you omit THE HEROD SONG.

Composer Alastair has been composing music for the last 15 years, having received a classical training as a cathedral chorister and music scholar. His work to date, apart from the Watnot's musicals, include two major stage musicals, one of which has its second run later this year. He is also currently moving into media composition for the internet, television, animation and corporate film work and hopes that through the launch of Watnots his collaboration with Sarah Watney will increase the access of musical theatre to more and more young people.
Sarah Watney
Lyricist and script writer Sarah got a B.A. Honours in Dramatic Arts at Bretton Hall, Leeds University. She then did a post-graduate in acting and singing at Mountview Theatre School. The last 7 years she has performed and taught to thousands of children across the country. She has visited many primary schools as a specialist drama teacher and has directed shows with children at the Polka Theatre, Bridewell Theatre, Thorndike Theatre and in many schools. All the "Watnots" musicals are directed, tried and tested by Sarah.
