Dick Whittington is a pantomime for key-stage 2 and key-stage 3 children. First performed in a small Lancashire village school it has a variety of parts suitable for a mixed ability group. Add to this the opportunities for dance and music and it becomes a very flexible musical that can suit a wide range of school or community ensembles.
The set is easily adapted depending on how varied resources may be. The author's suggestion is a half round production with seating on either side. The set can be an 'Old London' town scene at one end of the stage and a sailing ship's bridge at the other. There are, however, many ways in which it can be staged. A parent's or adult's choir is a good idea too, to swell young voices when they become tired.
