Splash! (Youth Theatre)

Performing a show with a cast of kids between the ages of 9 and 12 is certainly a challenge, and this show made it a whole lot easier!

The songs were full of bounce and energy and kept the audience from dozing off; my particular favourites were 'Two by Two' & 'In a floating Zoo'. Even the more emotional songs such as 'When life was good' were so cleverly written that whilst maintaining a suitable level of emotion still had a good bounce to the rhythm.

We struggled in cast size, and ended up performing the show with just 25 kids, yet it was a huge success and I believe this is mainly due to the way the characters were written.

Some of the one liners were truly histerical, my favourite being the 'geography...history...don't change the subject!'. It also had been cleverly written to humour not only a young audience but also the slightly older members.

Everyone truly enjoyed being part of it, and I loved directing it. I look forward to being involved in more of Craig Hawes' shows as this was honestly wonderful! (Posted on 31/12/2011)

Having bought the script last summer we tried out some of the songs at our junior workshops. The children loved singing them and the c/d was such a help with Magical songs all in just the right key for young voices. The script looked hilarious,so the decision was made for the juniors to perform SPLASH this summer. Last Saturday was the big day and what a success.Comments of "One of the best ever" and "so funny "from parents ( many who had a tear or two during the Rainbow number)
We had great fun producing the show and the kids just loved becoming their comical characters. Well done Craig some wonderful songs and some great script.
