Knowing how busy the end of the Autumn Term can be, and the huge demands placed on Teachers to produce a Christmas Nativity at the end of the first term of the school year, this show has been created to ease the pressure and be able to produce a very simple, but effective, production that both children, and their parents' alike, will really enjoy and help them to understand and remember the significance of Christmas celebrations.
The script is based on the story of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem but has very few spoken lines; the impact being created by delightful songs, actions and simple dance moves that the whole cast can be part of.
Scene One: The Angel Visits Mary
Long ago, in a faraway land, Mary is visited by Angel Gabriel, who brings astonishing news she will have a very special baby. Mary reacts with wonder as the scene gently introduces the Christmas story.
Song: What Was It Like?
Scene Two: Journey to Bethlehem
Following a decree for a census, Mary and Joseph set off on a long and tiring journey to Bethlehem with their faithful donkey. They walk through sun and heat, growing weary but determined to reach their destination.
Song: Travelling To Bethlehem
Scene Three: A Busy Bethlehem
Upon arriving in a bustling Bethlehem, the couple encounter chaos. Census Takers are frantically counting everyone in the town, including a Granny who wont stay still. Its a comical scene of counting confusion and crowd dodging.
Song: Stand Still Granny
Scene Four: No Room at the Inn
Mary and Joseph search for somewhere to stay but are turned away again and again by innkeepers. Just when all hope seems lost, a kind stable keeper offers shelter in his cosy stable. That night, baby Jesus is born.
Song: Theres No Room
Song: Jesus In The Manger
Scene Five: Angels and Shepherds
Meanwhile, on a nearby hillside, shepherds are watching their sheep when a heavenly choir of angels appears, announcing the birth of Jesus. Though frightened at first, the shepherds are filled with joy and set off to find the baby.
Song: Choir Of Angels
Scene Six: A Shining Star
A brilliant star appears in the sky above the stable. It glows brighter than ever before and lights the way for all to find the newborn king. The shepherds begin their journey as the star shines over Bethlehem.
Song: Theres A Star
Scene Seven: Wise Men and Camels
Far to the east, three Wise Men see the new star and understand its meaning. They prepare gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh and begin their long trek across the desert with their camels, following the star's guiding light.
Song: Three Kings, Three Camels
Scene Eight: Visitors to the Manger
The shepherds and the Wise Men arrive at the stable. They kneel before the baby Jesus, bringing gifts and adoration. The stable fills with warmth and joy as all gather to celebrate the birth of the baby king.
Song: First Ever Christmas Day
Scene Nine: The First Christmas Day
The story concludes with the whole cast celebrating the first ever Christmas Day. Everyone joins in song to remember this special moment. Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, and all the visitors share a moment of peace and togetherness.
Song: First Ever Christmas Day (continued)
Scene Ten: A Joyful Farewell
As the performance comes to a close, the entire cast shouts a heartfelt A Very Merry Christmas! to the audience. Baby Jesus is gently placed back in the manger and the final song echoes with love, warmth and festive cheer.
Song: Jesus In The Manger Reprise
Easy Peasy Flexible Casting
The script is VERY flexible and allows for a very small cast (e.g. Class size) or, alternatively, a much larger one (e.g. Year Group or Key Stage size), depending on the size of your school and how you wish to present the show.
